Where to place GreenGyms?
What is a Green Gym
GreenGym is an outdoor gym, very similar to an indoor gym – from cross trainers to pec decks. We have carefully provided a range of equipment to suit all needs. The key differences being that the equipment is found outdoors so it is robust, weatherproof and colourful. It does not use weights for resistance, but rather one’s own body weight. The devices are inviting, and look more like friendly playgrounds than intimidating fitness equipment. GreenGym parks provide a great opportunity for all community members to enjoy fitness and healthy active living for free.
The facilities are installed at the heart of well-kept public parks which are situated along running or walking paths, senior homes, hotels, golf courses, military bases and many other open spaces situated in villages and towns (See location samples). GreenGym is also installed around children’s playgrounds providing a general solution, both for people coming to work-out and for parents, siblings, grandparents and nannies who want to do a little exercise while their children are playing nearby. Either way, the facilities promote family and social interaction. Some were designed to allow for simultaneous use by two or four people, another element contributing to the overall feeling of a playground.
You can place GreenGym parks anywhere with a goal to provide outdoor fitness exercise that meets the needs of your community. Many communities around the world are already benefiting from outdoor fitness parks. It's the right time for your community! <Back to Top>
Everybody is free to use the equipment (Minimum age 6 with adult supervision, for some units the minimum age is 13); there is no entry fee, subscription, or dress code. There are written and pictorial guidance about how to use the equipment on each piece of equipment.
A comunity can also set up special times during the week where professional instructors can execute fitness classes or sessions at the gyms for the community members.
Weights and gyms are not just for men who want big muscles. They are important for helping weight loss, improving cardiovascular fitness and also in helping bones become stronger and healthier.
Have you ever considered the possibility that the municipal tax your community members pay each month will one day buy them a free gym membership?
Many community-based organizations, youth and adult serving groups, government agencies and health organizations are asking profound questions about how to encourage Canadians to be more physically active and improve their healthy living. Although there are many private providers of programs and fitness facilities, ‘cost’ and ‘access to quality facilities’ are two major contributing factors to the low participation rates.
Unfortunately private indoor gyms are not for everyone. When there are so many indoor gym facilities why then only 5% of the populations are visiting the traditional gym?
Many people are intimidated by the indoor gym concept. Here's why:
- They are intimidated by the weights.
- They don’t like to be around slim and well toned bodies.
- They feel embarrassed exposing their own bodies.
- They can’t afford the gym memberships
- They signed up for a membership before but learned they didn’t use the gym the way they should have and therefore it is not economical for them.
- They like the outdoors and don’t wish to workout indoors.
Outdoor gyms are for everyone. Come and go as you please and workout for free. Outdoor gym is a perfect solution for the majority of our communities and population. It is important to remember that the devices are not meant for body building, but for toning. The open fitness areas are no threat to indoor gyms. On the contrary, those who start training because of the availability of the facilities and discover that they like it and can keep at it will naturally join a gym.

There are key issues that are always making headlines:
- Obesity rates are rising rapidly in adults and children
- Physical activity rates are low
- There is a direct connection between physical activity and heart diseases
We know obesity is more prevalent in lower socio economic groups and these groups are not going to be able to afford to pay the fees associated with a commercial fitness centre. Outdoor free gyms offer a solution to this problem.
GreenGym provides a cost effective, low maintenance and highly accessible facility that can be rolled out across the country to get whole communities from children to grandparents to be active. GreenGym equipment can be constructed as a whole new outdoor gym or they can be just add on to existing parks, Kids playgrounds or walking trails.
